Sometimes a tree has to come out: it is dead or dying, unsafe, undermining a wall or a drain, or simply in the wrong place. Felling is the most hazardous thing we do and it is planned before anyone picks up a saw.
Where there is space a tree can be felled in one piece. In most Merseyside gardens there is not, so it is dismantled in sections from the top down, with limbs rigged and lowered rather than dropped. Before anything is agreed we check whether the tree is protected by an order or sits in a conservation area, because felling one without consent is an offence.
